We chat to UK-based online interior designer Dominique Lyons to find out more about how good interior design can help our children.

1. What attracted you to the interior design industry?
   
   I have always loved buildings and was a Buildings Archaeologist (with a focus on how buildings make you feel when you interact with them)  before becoming a nursery practitioner where I learnt of the impact of environment on young children.
   
   It was this that led me to design spaces where children can grow in independence and confidence, where they can be safe and nurtured and discover and create freely.
   
   
2. For parents/carers that might be considering interior design services for their child's room, what is the main advantage of doing so?
   
   Hiring an expert takes away the worry of whether everything will fit, whether it 'll last or be useful - it lets you carry on thinking about the things that matter to you rather than stressing out over whether the curtains will match the rug!
   
   Saving you money on costly mistakes like choosing the wrong colour or cotbed.
   
   
3. What is something about kids' interior design that parents/carers might not know about?
   
   Environment does affect us all, but especially our children - everything from layout, to colour, to texture, to lighting to smell impacts how your child reacts and interacts. 
   
   
4. What is your favourite thing about being an interior designer for kids' rooms?
   
   I love colour and I love being able to express my inner child in the playful and whimsical designs I create by putting myself into the children's shoes and thinking about how I would want to play with certain toys.
   
   
5. A fun question! Tea or coffee?
   
   Decaf!! Big fan of decaf coffee at the weekends and tea weekdays!
